Agave

My brooch is a representation of the Agave Parryi Truncata, which is a species of succulent. Its common name is Artichoke Agave. Agaves exhibit beauty and display protective traits against their harsh natural environments. Artichoke Agaves form into a rosette shape like an artichoke hence its name. They have blue-green flat, wide, and curved tip leaves lined with red-dark purple spines that point inward towards the center. These spines are sharp even though they appear as if they could be flexible on the succulent. I made the spines on the leaves on my brooch sharp, but I also wanted to show the beauty of the succulent by adding color to it. Just as the succulent is a splash of color for the desert regions it is native to, I desire for my brooch to stand out with a splash of color on whoever may be wearing it.

The brooch is hand-crafted and made with copper, brass, steel wire, and soft pastel.
